About

Jade Holland is a First Nations artist, designer, and the founder of Sketch & Story.

Jade is a Wiradjuri and Gomeroi woman and has a deep respect for Bundjalung Country where she grew up. As an artist, she draws inspiration from the natural landscapes that have shaped her life—the ocean, rivers, hills, forests and kin. These elements of Country are at the heart of her work.

Whilst Jade hasn’t had the privilege of growing up in community with mob, she is on her own cultural journey and is forever inspired by Country and pays her respect to the people she continues to learn from along the way.

As a qualified graphic designer with over 10 years of industry experience, and a background in Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art - Jade specialises in digital art, illustration, painting, and photography. Sketch & Story was born out of Jade’s desire to share both her designs and artwork whilst also strengthening her cultural connection. Through each piece, Jade deepens her relationship with Country, her heritage and cultural identity.

For the last several years, Jade’s creative practice has included working on projects that bolster Aboriginal communities to empower their voices, creating culturally significant visual components, and providing design solutions for businesses. She’s had the privilege of contributing to projects involving Cultural mapping, Traditional Custodial guided and represented artwork, and branding that supports Indigenous enterprises and allies of Mob navigating this space. Jade’s background includes working in Aboriginal engagement and planning, the print industry and corporate sectors.

A portion of proceeds from Sketch & Story is donated to Indigenous landcare initiatives, helping to care for Country. Her mission is to create art that not only resonates but also connects people to the beauty of Country, the natural world and Indigenous culture.
